Surrounded by mellow stone walls and mature hornbeam and lime trees, Le Logis du Paradis is a lovely old complex of buildings dating from 1712 near Cognac and the Charente valley. A unique feature is the possibility of combining classic car hire in France with a luxury French shortbreak.
This is the ideal location for relaxing breaks in the Charente, enjoying the Charente valley, the town of Cognac on the River Charente and also being set in the best of the Grande Champagne Cognac, Premier Cru Cognac vineyards.
With its former Cognac distillery, the Logis with its comfortable rooms, offering character and charm, is built around a large, enclosed, classic Charentais courtyard.
The 18th century wing has been recently renovated to the highest standard providing five lovely and spacious guest rooms. Known here as Chambres de caractere. All the bedrooms overlook the south facing courtyard. You can relax in private as each room has its own table and comfortable chairs. A flat screen TV with satellite channels and radio are also provided as standard. Every room has a luxurious en-suite bathroom with separate WC. Twin beds or Super King-size double bed are available in all bedrooms. A cot is also available on request.
Le Logis du Paradis
(A ‘Paradis’ in this region is the building where the finest and oldest Cognac is stored) is set in a charming, tiny hamlet on the banks of the small river Né. An ideal base for peaceful countryside holidays amongst Cognac Vineyards and also near Jarnac, Angouleme, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Ile de Re, Ile d’Oleron and near the Dordogne. All are within an easy day trip. Classic cars are available for self-drive rental. We also have various itineraries available to our guests, suggesting easy and interesting day trips by car.
Excellent table d’hote meals on request, using only the freshest ingredients are a regular feature, served either in the large, airy breakfast/dining room or outside on a south facing terrace shaded by mature lime trees. Just beyond the courtyard is a lush walled garden, with further terraces, lawn and the distillery bar and the large, salt water swimming pool, with garden furniture and sun loungers. Beyond this is the walled park ’a l’Anglais’ with two avenues of trees and extensive grounds from where there are views across the vineyards and hills of the Grand Champagne. Bicycles are available and we have documented appealing walks and cycling routes in the attractive nearby countryside.
We are located close to the pretty market town of Barbezieux and only 30 minutes from both historic Cognac and the attractive, busy city of Angoulême. Angoulême has a TGV station (2hrs 15 mins to Paris) and is within easy reach of four international airports (Poitiers, La Rochelle, Limoges and Bordeaux). A new low cost service from London to Angouleme is proposed from early 2008.
