Maxda MX5
2 seater
At the time of writing we have two examples of the sporty MX5 2 seater available for rental from the Logis du Paradis. One is a red Mk 1 with the pop-up headlamps and the other is a limited edition series 2 in dark blue with leather seats, alloy wheels etc.
This arrival of the MX5 in the early 1990’s marked a sea change in the affordable sports car marketplace, once firmly occupied by the British manufacturers like MG, Triumph, Sunbeam etc. With the unfortunate decline of these once great marques by the 1980’s, the Japanese were able to use their ingenuity to produce a perfect gap filler which retained the appearance of cars like the immortal 1960’s Lotus Elan and a cheerful open air driving experience.
What they also added was a build-quality and refinement markedly absent from their British forebears. So there is now a confidence about the reliability and durability of these cars plus a proper hood that can be raised and lowered at once, a good heater and electric windows and a convenience in the comfort and equipment which allows them to be used without the checks and high maintenance needed for operating the older classic vehicles.
The MX5 also has a decent boot and the newer car has a stylish factory hardtop making it fully usable year round.
